AVG antivirus no longer free

AVG antivirus has always been my favourite anti-virus program and I have been using it for a very long time. AVG Technologies (formerly Grisof)has come out with the latest version, AVG Internet Security 8.0, which consists of Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware, Anti-Spam, Web Protection and Firewall. It costs £39.99 (inc. 17.50% VAT) for a 1 year subscription and £59.99 (inc. VAT) for 2 years.

If you just want the anti-virus it will cost you £29.99 inc. VAT for a 1 year Subscription and £39.99 inc. VAT for a 2 years Subscription.

Fortunately, a free version - AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 8.0 (latest version : 8.0.138) is still available.

Terminate spyware and viruses as well

Spyware Terminator 1.9.3.142 (10.38MB) is another great anti-spyware program. However unlike other free spyware programs available on the net, this one provides real-time anti-spyware protection. Another major difference is that it comes with a built-in antivirus protection and is FREE for both personal and commercial use.

When I last checked, it had been downloaded 7296162 times.

They are currently working on their latest version, Spyware Terminator 2.0. Read the news: Spyware Terminator Version 2.0 Beta Release.

The Beta is available for download at: http://www.spywareterminator.com/dnl/beta.aspx

Avast antivirus

Another highly rated antivirus software. Avast Home Edition 4.7.942 is completely FREE for for HOME users for NON-COMMERCIAL use.

You have 60 days to test the product. If you like the software and want to continue using it, then you have to register with them (still free).

This program guards your PC and network with multiple layers and can even scan executables downloaded on e-mails, p2p programs and more. The virus database is updated automatically at least twice a week.

I am quite impressed that you can download it in several different language versions including Malay and Chinese (simple as well as traditional).
