AVG antivirus no longer free

AVG antivirus has always been my favourite anti-virus program and I have been using it for a very long time. AVG Technologies (formerly Grisof)has come out with the latest version, AVG Internet Security 8.0, which consists of Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware, Anti-Spam, Web Protection and Firewall. It costs £39.99 (inc. 17.50% VAT) for a 1 year subscription and £59.99 (inc. VAT) for 2 years.

If you just want the anti-virus it will cost you £29.99 inc. VAT for a 1 year Subscription and £39.99 inc. VAT for a 2 years Subscription.

Fortunately, a free version - AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 8.0 (latest version : 8.0.138) is still available.

  1. It is still free so far that I am concern. I have been using and upgrading AVG from time to time. Of course updating is done automatically now in 8.0. I believe what you are trying to say is, that AVG now offering extra services with certain fees. Version 8.0 free is definitely better than the previous 7.0 free as it combined all of its utilities together. I guess different people just have different view huh?!

  2. There is still a free version but I thought the title would be more "sensational" ;-)
